Letter From Melissa Weiss, PTA President
Dear Arroyo Families,
Welcome new and returning ArroyoFamilies! Our PTA has already been hard at work preparing for another productive, rewarding and fun year. We have the privilege of working with the most talented teachers and staff as well as enjoying a tremendous volunteer force, loaded with passion and talent.
Thank you to all who took our survey in Spring. The results can be found on the ARROYOPTA.org website. This year we are in a great financial position and able to allocate over $50,000.00 above our standing budget items. Your survey results, principal and teacher input guided our allocation process. Here are just a few programs we support:
Technology – With last year’s support, your PTA can fund an additional 50 IPads, bringing us closer than ever to 1 to 1 ration for all grades
STEAM - Our maker space where– Your PTA continues to support this hands-on space where students are creatively challenged to solve problems using principals of science, technology and math.
Teacher development– This year your PTA has allocated additional funds to further teacher development. One reason our teachers are some of the best is because of the additional training they seek and the PTA supports.
Friday Fitness Coach– We are so proud to introduce Dr. Steven Kelly as our new fitness coach. His experience, passion and energy for educating children on health is a tremendous asset to Arroyo.
Social Emotional Learning Coordinator– Your PTA is happy to support another impactful year with Mrs. Owen, L.C.S.W, our school SELC. Mrs. Owen facilitates Social Skills (leadership, empowerment, healthy friendships, etc.…) Groups. Mrs. Owen also supports teachers and school leadership to build a strong SEL school program.
Library– This year we’ll be moving closer to updating our library space by purchasing much needed new shelving.
Literacy Enrichment– Your PTA has committed $15,000.00 for the purchase of books in our lending library. These are leveled books utilized by classrooms. Above the new books, your PTA also fully supports this space with staff.
Cultural experiences– From ArtTeach, a Segerstrom Arts center program that brings talent to our school with assemblies, to recess projects that teach students about different cultures through art, and everything in between. Your PTA strives to instill a love for arts and culture.
Safety– Last year your PTA committed $7,000.00 to new teacher, staff radios, signage and supplies. Radios will allow swift communication by teachers and staff anywhere in on campus and clear signs will direct traffic in the safest possible way.
In addition to the supported items above, your PTA also supports field trips, grade specific events, family events, recess activities, a school newspaper, numerous hospitality events, end of year carnival, chorus, grounds beautification, kindness campaign, read across America, sports supplies and much more.

Finally, I’d like to encourage you to make a difference by joining us in any way you can. From sending feedback, providing suggestions, sharing your talent or taking on a large event, your support is necessary to our mission and it’s why Arroyo is such a stand out school. Let’s repeat last year’s participation and success. Please know, every one of the 10,000 volunteer hours put forward a year by our PTA exists to enrich your students Elementary School experience.

Summer Reading Challenge Deadline: Monday, August 20th!
Summer reading log sheets may be turned into the box in front of the school office on the first day of school through Monday, August 20th. Please make sure that your child’s first name, last name, current grade and teacher, as well as parent/student signatures are on the log sheet, as well as totals for number of pages read and number of different places read. Also, please attach any additional Extra Log Sheets your child may have used to the back of the large yellow log. No log sheets will be accepted after the deadline on August 20th.
