Letter from Melissa Weiss, PTA President
Welcome back returning families and to our new families, welcome to the Arroyo Community. A big welcome to our new Principal, Katy Sheyka. We are thrilled you are joining the Arroyo family.
Arroyo’s program continues to be strong. The Arroyo PTA plays an important role in supporting this great school by working hard to provide the “extras” that enrich our children’s educational experience. Your PTA is already hard at work planning and preparing next year’s activities and programs, outlining our goals, collaborating, and finalizing our budget for the year. Our PTA Chair persons always exceed expectations and our parents support is stellar! As well, we enjoy a close relationship and open dialog with TUSD. It’s going to be a great year with your help.
I strongly encourage every parent to renew or start a new PTA membership. Membership does not translate into volunteering, this is important to know. Although your valuable time is most appreciated and encouraged, it is not necessary for membership. Your membership translates into legislative pull. Our Fourth District PTA is the largest in California, and in the top 10 in the nation! One of the roles of the District PTA is to advocate for your children to legislators on the State and National level. Please join.
With your generous funding of this PTA, we’re able to continue with all the valuable programs and activities that make Arroyo so exceptional, from Fine Arts, Fitness, School Wide Family and Grade Specific Events, Library Clubs and a School Newspaper, just to name a few. Your donated dollars also fund instructional aids, weekly fitness coach and in class libraries for our teachers. Arroyo relies solely on community donations for these programs.
Here are a few of the newer projects the at school this year:
I am thrilled, thanks to fundraising efforts and PTA passion, to be ahead of schedule financially for our much-needed playground renovation. We are ready! As fast as TUSD can move on this, we are ready financially because of your donations.
Mustang Maker Space
This year the PTA will be funding a TUSD employee to assist our teachers with their projects. This will allow the teacher to focus solely on the project instruction and interaction.
Respect for All Committee
New last school year, we are excited to continue our efforts to celebrate diversity, promote kindness, inclusion and respect amongst all students at Arroyo. They will work to the mission through various school wide projects and PTA provided resources available to students, families and teachers.
New PTA Website
Wow, a new site where parents can connect to our PTA. From financial reports to volunteer needs for any given week you’ll find it on the arroyo PTA website. Please, take a look.
We are pleased to announce that Arroyo is expanding our participation in the Segerstrom ArtTeach program for the 2017/2018 school year. This valuable program sparks creativity and appreciation for the arts by providing students a front row seat to world class music, dance and theatrical performances through school assemblies.
Meet the Masters
We are excited to announce a new addition to the Arroyo Family, Art instructor, Melissa Peters. Melissa will be the students new dynamic guide to the fascinating lives of 6 master artists. In addition to leading the students through a multi-media assembly, Melissa will take each class on a step by step journey through the art projects. All this provided by your PTA.
As we look forward please know every volunteer, every committee, every program or event, every effort put forward by this PTA exists to elevate our student’s elementary school experience. I ask every one of you to imagine the school you want for your kids, and make it happen. Whether you take on a project or simply join the PTA, you have a place and a voice.
