There are many beloved traditions at Arroyo, and 4th Grade's 49er Day ranks as one of those eagerly anticipated study units and academic events at school. On May 17, fourth graders were transported back to 1849 during the California gold rush. Students had the chance to experience life as a gold-miner through the help of teachers and parents. Mustang 49ers were decked out in their gold-mining best as they panned for gold, churned butter, had a hoe-down with square dancing, traded in gold for wares (candy!) at the general store, and finished off with a delicious BBQ lunch.
Thank you to Tami Telson, Laura Thorne and all the parent and staff volunteers who rallied to put on this historic event!
