What Are Strength of Character Awards?

On Friday, September 29th, Arroyo recognized its first Strength of Character award recipients for demonstrating Respect in the classroom and at school. Congratulations to our Mustang Strong students!

Mrs. Sheyka will present Strength of Character awards at the last Friday Flag ceremony of each month. Students are selected by their teachers for exemplifying the character trait(s) for that month.

Parents may have noticed some of our new Strength of Character posters around school lately! That's because PTA's Respect For All committee and Arroyo staff are partnering to define what it means to be "Mustang Strong!"

These 12 attributes embody the Mustang principle of "Strength of Character":

September: Respect

October: Self-Care & Self-Discipline

November: Gratitude

December: Responsibility

January: Fairness

February: Caring/Compassion

March: Assertiveness

April: Helpfulness/Integrity

May: Perseverance

Parents can discuss these characteristics with children at home and give additional encouragement and reinforcement. Respect For All is also providing parents with a monthly newsletter and booklist in the Sunday message and in Friday folders to help support discussion. Students may find the Strength of Character tips and action items in the newsletter fun and helpful.

We are looking forward to a kind and respectful year! Go Mustangs!
